Actors in the West are either cutting their own albums or starring as rock stars in films
Tom Cruise
Actor Tom Cruise is all set to don an entirely different avatar for his new movie Rock of Ages. The 48-year-old actor, who is known for his action movie, Mission Impossible, will be seen crooning in the big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. The actor, who took vocal lessons, plays fictional heavy metal star Stacee Jaxx in the movie. Cruise has been quoted as saying, “I’ve never done a musical, and I’m having a blast. I’ve always loved music. It’s fantastic.”

Harry Potter star Tom Felton has landed a record deal and is set to release his album. Felton, 23, has signed with Indie label Six Strings Productions to produce an album, which he will write, play and sing himself. Felton has revealed that he began making music with friends as a hobby, before realising the tracks they were laying down were “quite credible”. He has also been quoted as saying, “I’m a keen musician. We have a great band behind us that has turned my nursery-rhyme songs into quite credible pieces of music.”

The 11-track album is being produced by Bridges’ Crazy Heart collaborator and multiple Grammy Award-winning songwriter, musician and producer, T Bone Burnett. The music is an extension of the actor’s personal, professional, and musical friendship with Burnett, whom he has known for more than 30 years.
